Always Alert to Serve Round
The Baden-Powell Patrol is made up of members of the Scout Movement and Radio Amateurs, who meet periodically in the "Always Alert to Serve" Rounds, on the HF, VHF and Echolink bands, for information, fellowship and strengthening bonds of fraternity and friendship, common characteristics between Scouts and Radio Amateurs.
The main objectives of the Baden-Powell Patrol are:
-
Spread the Scout Movement;
-
Promote and support national and international Radio Scouting activities, such as JOTA/JOTI (Jamboree on the Air/Jamboree on the Internet) and CQWS (CQ World Scouts);
-
Encourage frequent communication between Scout Stations in available modes and bands;
-
Promote knowledge and operational techniques among young radio amateurs and scouts and
-
Cooperate for the growth of National Amateur Radio, with a spirit of service to others and Public Utility.
History of the Baden-Powell Patrol
In the early 1970s, at CRAL – Leopoldina Radio Amateurs Club, Rio de Janeiro, there was the " Rodada do Pau de Arara" , coordinated by PY1CQV – Adherbal Batista de Paula and other friends, among them PY1BMU – Adolpho Jacob Bretz and PY1CKV – Laércio Batista de Almeida .
As they were very active radio amateurs and enthusiasts of the Scout Movement, these valiant pioneers of Radio Scouting (that term didn't even exist yet), at 6 am on September 18, 1973 , carried out for the first time the "Always Alert to Serve Round" , thus giving rise to the Baden-Powell Patrol , “For greater integration between Scouts and Radio Amateurs” , in the words of Chief De Paula himself.
Under the coordination of PY1CQV, the first "Patrulheiros" numbers were assigned, making a "Promise" on the frequency of 7,150 kHz, in AM (there was no SSB). Among these 16 Founders of the Always Alert to Serve Round, the remarkable presence of the first "Patrulheiros" (Patrulheiros), PY6AKP – Maria Tereza de Mello Batista, stands out.
Inclusion of the 80-meter band
Almost 8 years later, on June 19, 1981 , the Baden-Powell Patrol was activated on the frequency of 3,662 kHz, by PY2RAR – Ronan (at the time PY2EWQ) , Patrolman 447, from Rio Claro/SP and PY2RKT–Arakén , Patrolman 431, from Lençóis Paulista/SP (respectively Monitor and Sub-Monitor).
One of the objectives was to extend the activities of the Always Alert Round to Serve in the 80-meter band, having been officially recognized by Commander PY1CQV – De Paula, who authorized the BP Patrol to also distribute the Patrolman numbers.
The rounds were daily (Monday to Friday) at two times: from 6:00 am to 8:00 am on 3,650 kHz and from 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on 7,250 kHz. Ivan-PY1CCO stood out as Commander .
Since then, the story continues, with the dedication of several commanders. The most important part of the Baden-Powell Patrol's history is, of course, made up of ALL the Patrolmen who have served here and continue to serve here.
